Imagine an immortal life of being hunted down by an eternally damned ghost ship, and not just any ghost ship, the notorious Flying Dutchman. The Angel’s Command
by Brian Jacques follows the immortal adolescent Ben and his Labrador
Ned as they find themselves in many adventures while trying to evade
Captain Vanderdecken and his crew aboard The Flying Dutchman
as they stop at nothing to try and regain their former cabin boy. Their
first adventure in the story starts in Cartagena, Spain in 1628 aboard
friendly French pirate Raphael Thuron’s ship, La Petite Marie.
While being pursued by two other ships, both unfriendly with one being a
ghost ship, their odyssey leads them to France where their ship is shot
down by English privateers and Ben and Ned are off again on yet another
adventure.
The story really makes you realize how important companionship is and
how with a bond of friendship, anything is possible. All in all, The Angel’s Command is a great book full of action and perils that will make your heart skip a beat. It is recommended for readers ages 9 and up.
Honorable Mention
The Maze Runner
The Mark of Athena
The Westing Game
The hook of this review was very hooking. I definetly cannot imagine getting haunted by a ghost that has been eternally damned.
