Two-Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt

Book Review By Liz Cam

For Courtney going on a road trip from Florida to Massachusetts with her ex-boyfriend is definitely not the most ideal way to spend the last days of her summer and starting University. But what can she do? It’s her only way of going to her University’s orientation. Before she got dumped by Jordan, she was happy to go on a road trip, to the same University with her boyfriend. But now that they broke up she is stuck with him. After finding out that Jordan dumped her for a girl on the internet she pretends not to care but it looks like Jordan does care. He has some secrets that have to do with why he broke up with her in the first place. But the thing is, he is afraid to tell Courtney these secrets.
The main reason on why I liked this book was because it went back and forth from the past and the present from both Courtney and Jordan’s point of view. This made the story clearer on what happened before the road trip. Another reason why is because the book started out with how their love started and how it developed and became stronger as time went by. Even though their relationship ended, they still had feelings for each other. The last reason on why I liked this book is because most romance books are just about romance, but this book was adventurous with romance in it. This makes the book more fun to read.
This book reminds me of the movie “Dear John”. In that movie John is in the army and he has to go somewhere for two years, leaving his girlfriend Savanna. While he’s away they send each other letters on what’s going on in their lives. One day Savanna sends John a letter saying that she got engaged and doesn’t tell him with whom or why. When John comes back to his hometown, Savanna’s husband tells him that Savanna still loves him. Just like Courtney and Jordan, even though they break up they still love each other. This book’s theme, that there are two sides to every break up, made me think about the importance of hearing both sides to a break up.
