Have
you ever felt like you were in a place where you couldn’t escape from
it? Or that your life is being completely controlled? Well that’s what
life is like in The Other Side Of The Island
written by Allegra Goodman. Honor lives with her normal family. But one
day Honor learns shocking news, that her mother is going to have a new
child. Where they live, all the parents only have one kid, not two. Then
after that her parents become more unique and they don’t do what you
are “supposed” to do. So they get taken away. Honor and her baby brother
Quintilian get put into the orphanage. They find one of their friends
there, Helix. One day on a field trip Honor spots her mother working as
an orderly. How will Honor and Helix get back to their families?
The Other Side Of The Island reminds
me of being in jail. Not the reading feeling like that but the
characters in the book because there lives are controlled and they are
in a place where they can’t leave. The Other Side Of The Island also reminds me of the book The Giver by Lois Lowry because they too live in a place where you can’t escape and your life is controlled.
