The Secret Life of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd
The Secret Life of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd
“Reviewed by” Erica P.
The story starts out with a little girl her mother and father. Her father was not the nicest person to be around, he yelled and shouted. One day her mother was in a closet organizing clothes. Her father started yelling at the mother and he became aggressive towards her. The father dropped a gun on the floor. The little girl ran over and picked it up. Then there was a noise that shocked everyone.
The protagonist is Lilly she is 14 years old and is a nice brave and strong girl. The setting is in South Carolina 1964. Lilly is trying to figure out the death of her mother when she was only a little girl. She wonders how she died and most of all the gun that went off.
I liked this book because it told a story of a young girl growing up in a hard life. Lilly the young girl and protagonist had an abusive father and she lost her mother at a young age and she still wonders how she died. It was interesting and the author uses a lot of descriptive words and metaphors.
The girl Lilly does not have a great life, she works almost every day and has a mean father and no mother. This made me think of my family and how lucky I am to have a nice loving and caring family.

I'm usually not interested in books like this, but you made me want to read it, the most interesting part that you mentioned was how Lilly really wanted to know how her mother died, and that her father was abusive.
