Summer Ball by Mike Lupica

Review by: Kyle F                                                                           Danny Walker, son of Richie Walker, gets told he is going to a basketball camp over the summer.  It is called Right Way, and only elite players get to go from all over the country, so Danny needs to step up his game.  Danny is very short for his age, so he is surprised when he sees players much taller than him.  Danny also meets his rival, Rasheed, who was a star player in the travel team championship who got called for a foul that ended the game.  This camp changes Danny and the way he plays.  College players and coaches help teach Danny even more about the game of basketball, although he gets told that he is more suitable for soccer than basketball, because of his height.  This book is full of very surprising events.
I would most likely want Danny Walker to be my friend because he is nice most of the time.  He also stands up for himself and others, like when Lamar was picking on him and Zach Fox, a 12 year old.  He stood up for both of them, however this did get them all suspended for two games.  I'm glad he fought for what he thought was right.  Danny is also athletic, kind of like me, a little bit.  So we both have something partially in common.  Danny is nice to everyone, especially Tess, the only time he feels mad and mean is when someone starts picking on him or tells him that he can't do something.  That's why I'd like to be friends with Danny Walker.
I liked the book a lot because it was a sports book.  The whole entire book was about basketball, and I play basketball, so I enjoyed the book.  Also, I liked it because in some parts of the book, near the ending of games, I started to get anxious because I wanted to know that the final result was going to be.  This book was one of those books where you HAD to keep reading.  I didn't want to stop when I was reading it, in facts, I read 120 pages of this book in one day.  I enjoyed this book and I think it's one of the best books I've read.
This book was just right because I understood all of it, however, there were some parts I didn't quite get at first, but I started to understand them after reading on in the book.  This was a great book.
