Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O'brien

Review by Joe B

Disaster strikes on the United States, high amounts of radiation is everywhere in the valley. Teenager, Ann Burden is living in the valley where the sun shines and the radiation can’t get to her. She is holding up well in her home for everything being gone as well as her family. Soon she meets a man in a green safe suit. The man’s emotions can be unpredictable and sometimes scary, but Ann must trust the man in order to survive.

This book was great. I loved the plot and the storyline. Me personally, I like the apocalyptic stories. If you are that kind of person this book is for you. I feel like it’s a little outdated because the book was published in the 70s and the book takes place in the 70s, but overall it’s a good book. The plot development is slow at some times because the author mostly just talks about Ann’s daily life until we meet the man in the suit, but I guess that’s how it would be in the aftermath of a nuclear war. Overall, this book is great and would recommend this book to anyone who likes apocalyptic stories.

  1. For the most part it was a great book but the ending was definitely a cliffhanger... not exactly the best book ever considering I hate cliffhangers!
