Assignment: The Other Side of the Island

Mysterious workers around the city. The perfect families. Island 365. These were all new to the protagonist Honor and her family in the book The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman. Even worse Honor and her family are Unpredictable! Honor just wants to fit in but her family's rebellious ways ruin the chances of her ever fitting in, in her new home at the Island 365.
The antagonist Earth Mother is a woman who controls over everything. She is a religious symbol, a political icon, and an inspiration to everyone. Everyone but Honors family that is. Honors family has just moved to Island 365 from the Northern Islands and have had a culture-shock like surprise in their new home controlled by Earth Mother. After going to school, Honor decides that she will be another one of Earth Mothers followers. However her parents who are not “religious”, and don’t agree with Earth Mothers ways, haven’t taught her anything about her or the new island life. Honors family meets another family of Unpredictables. Helix a boy from Honors school has an amazing life, his parents have jobs, they live in a good house, however they oppose Earth Mother. After both families disappear its up to Helix and Honor to decide whether they will be Unpredictables or pawns of society.

  1. This is great Dilara! I loved how you started off the review, with a few simple but important aspects of the book. I read this book at the beginning of the year and I think you did a great job summarizing.
