If I Stay By Gayle Forman

A review by Deanna S.

*****
Imagine yourself having a nice day with your family and then it all goes bad and you get in a car crash. You can see yourself being air lifted to the hospital. That’s exactly what happened to fifteen-year-old Annabelle. She was going to visit her grandmother in Oklahoma for the day but never got there.
I liked this book because it keeps you in suspense and is scary at some points. It was like the lovely bones. She was a ghost and could see everything that was happening but couldn’t speak or be seen. That is what Annabelle was like.

  2. Deanna, splendid job! Your review made me want to read this book because you created suspense. you created suspense by creating an image of what it would be like to lose my family in an instant. Your first sentence was, "imagine yourself having a nice day with your family and then it all goes bad and you get in a car crash." Your writing technique (suspense) made me interesting in reading this mysterious book. This book reminds me of the book, "Would You" by Marthe Jocelyn because the protagonist's sister got into a car crash. What I wonder is, how did Annabelle feel when nobody could hear or see her? Was there any way for her to communicate with her family while she was dead? Spectacular job!
